In 2022, FOREST provided funding support for the US Forest Service's Pitch Pine Regeneration Study, in coordination with the Central Pine Barrens Commission and the University of Vermont.
The project focused on research into the regeneration of native pitch pine in pine and pine–oak ecosystems within Long Island’s Central Pine Barrens following significant infestation and damage caused by the southern pine beetle, after initial suppression and management techniques had been implemented.
The project examined management techniques including mechanical treatments, prescribed fire, seeding, and planting to develop best practices guidance that benefited agencies on Long Island and throughout the Northeast involved in responding to and managing southern pine beetle infestations. This guidance supported the recovery of impacted ecological communities and improved overall forest health and resilience.

In 2023, FOREST intends to extend its reach and its beneficial impact by advancing efforts to raise funds for future projects which have been identified for sponsorship. These projects include:
